Michelle Rodges has been the Director of the Wylie High School Pirate Pacesetters and Dance teacher since 1994. She came to Wylie from Boswell High School where she directed the Pure Gold Dance Team for one year and also taught Dance 1. While at Boswell, she also assisted with the choreography for the musical Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.
Michelle is a former Plano East High School Golden Girl. After high school, Michelle attended Southwest Texas State University (currently Texas State) as a Dance Major where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise and Sports Science. She received her teaching certification in Dance and Health. While at SWT, Michelle was a member of the world-famous Strutters. As a Strutter, she performed at a Houston Oilers Professional football game, various San Antonio Spurs games, and a birthday celebration at Aquarian Springs for Ralph, the famous swimming pig. During her years at SWT, she was a member of the Orchesis Dance Company, Delta Psi Kappa Dance Honor Fraternity, Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority (serving as the chapters recording secretary), SWT Stars (helped with the football recruiting program), and Dean’s List. In 2011, Michelle graduated from Dallas Baptist University earning her Masters degree in Educational Leadership with Principal certification.
Mrs. Rodges’ drill team experience and awards include being a Senior Staff contest adjudicator for Showtime International. She is a former camp instructor and choreographer for Showtime. During her years with Showtime International, she has had the opportunity to be one of the choreographers for a DTDA All-Star Performance at their annual convention. She is a Certified Judge for Line, Officers, Solo, and Teams through Drill Team Directors of America. During DTDA’s existence, Michelle Volunteered on the Fashion Show Committee from 2001-2003, was 2nd Vice President from 2002-2005, President from 2005-2007, and Past President 2007-2008. Mrs. Rodges has been awarded Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers multiple times, National Honor Roll Outstanding American Teachers multiple times, as well as Cambridge Who’s Who Among Executives and Professionals in Teaching and Education. She was named Top Ten Director of the year for DTDA in 2003 and 2005 and in 2007 she was named DTDA Director of the Year. She was a member of DTDA from 1992 until it closed a couple of years ago. She has been an active member of Texas Dance Educators Association since 1993 where she was a Regional Representative. Since directing the Pirate Pacesetters, her team has won numerous awards including several National Champion Titles from Contest of Champions and Showtime International along with a multitude of other awards.
Michelle is married to Jeff Rodges, who is a huge supporter of the Pacesetters. Along with her husband, she is the mother of an 22 year-old daughter, Samantha and an 18 year-old son, Houston.
Mrs. Rodges feels extremely blessed being the Pacesetter Director to an amazing group of hard-working young ladies.
